TREE PLANTING CEREMONY TO CELEBRATE
MAYOR’S GIVE A DAY AND FESTIVAL OF FAITHS
Billy Goat Hill Community Garden’s Tree Canopy Committee plants trees at Varanese Restaurant
On Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 5:30 pm, the community is invited to participate in the planting of two trees in the empty tree wells in front of Varanese restaurant, 2106 Frankfort Avenue., in the Clifton neighborhood.
The Tree Canopy committee of Louisville’s model for community gardens, Billy Goat Hill Community Garden, is rolling up their sleeves to support “Give A Day” and highlight this year’s theme of the Festival of Faiths, Sacred Air. An Urban Tree Canopy provides many benefits: healthy air, cooling shade, cleaner water, less crime, reduced stress, job opportunities, wildlife habitat, beautification and more livable communities. The more canopy cover our neighborhoods have, the more benefits the whole community will receive.
“We have had an exciting 4 years here in the Clifton neighborhood and appreciate the success we’ve enjoyed here! We went to great lengths to maintain the historic integrity of our once vintage gas station building, which we renovated to beautify the area. These trees will compliment the ongoing beautification of our historic Clifton neighborhood,” states John Varanese, chef/owner of Varanese Restaurant.
The event is being organized and facilitated by Center For Neighborhoods. The trees are generously funded and cared for by DD Wiiliamson. The public is invited.
