NEIGHBORHOOD INSTITUTE!

Neighborhood Institute began in 1987 with a class of 16 neighborhood leaders conducted at Walnut Street Baptist Church. Since then, the NI has graduated over 900 people from all 26 Metro Council districts and So. Indiana. The Neighborhood Institute continues its purpose to equip neighborhood leaders with skills and resources needed to initiate positive change in the community through their neighborhood groups, small cities, condo and homeowner associations.

Congratulations! Neighborhood Institute graduates have been vital to making Louisville the City of Neighborhoods.

If you have not attended the Neighborhood Institute, become a part of Louisville's legacy of effective neighborhood leaders, creating a better quality of life for all of us.

Grassroots Gala Booth Workshop

Join Center For Neighborhoods and members of the Grassroots Gala Steering Committee for a fun morning that will get your creative juices flowing towards a great neighborhood booth. Our goal is assist your group in highlighting to the whole community why YOUR neighborhood is the best! We want to assure that your participation is an enjoyable experience.

Representatives from all neighborhood groups, homeowner associations and municipalities interested in participating in the Grassroots Gala are welcome!!!

Neighborhood Booths

Your neighborhood booth at the Grassroots Gala can highlight your neighborhood in any manner your members feel appropriate. Be creative! Each booth space consist of an eight foot table and two chairs.

  • Bring photos and highlight your neighborhood history
  • Raise money for your group:
    • Raffle and item from a neighborhood artist or store
    • Sell neighborhood merchandise or membership
  • Partner with a neighborhood business to give away samples or baubles
  • Conduct a survey or poll
  • Feature a neighborhood "jewel," attraction or park
  • Promote neighborhood events or festivals

It's YOUR event and YOUR space - Make it special!

The workshop will be conducted by Grassroots Gala committee member, Melissa Mershon.

An example booth presented by Old Louisville Neighobrhood Council and Toonerville Trolley Neighborhood Association will be on display.

Monday, January 16th:

  • Beargrass Creek Alliance, Crescent Hill Library, 2762 Frankfort Ave., 7pm. The meeting will focus on discussions about the ongoing Neighborhood Creek Project and other BCA items such as creek clean-ups and outreach. Find out more at www.beargrasscreek.org. Everyone is welcome.
  • MLK Day of Service, Shawnee Park, 11 am - 2 pm. Make the day off, a day on! Help restore this neighborhood gem! Gloves, tools and refreshments provided. Dress for weather and working outdoors. Register now

Lucky Horseshoe Neighborhood Association meeting, South Louisville Commuinty Center, 2911 Taylor Blvd, 7:00 pm.

Thursday, January 19th:

Olmsted Parks Naturalist Informational Session, Conservancy's office, 1299 Trevilian Way, 7 pm. The Olmsted Parks Conservancy is looking for friendly, outgoing individuals, 18 years and older, to become volunteer Naturalists in the Frederick Law Olmsted Parks. We have a variety of fun opportunities and all Naturalists are trained in their area of interest. Trained volunteers can choose to assist with restoration projects, volunteer events and/or community outreach. Register now to attend the informational session

Tuesday, January 24th:

MSD Sewer Overflow Abatement project review and input public meeting, Kentuckiana Girl Scouts Headquarters, 2115 Lexington Road., 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Formal presentations on 1) Proposed combined sewer overflow and sanitary sewer overflow project modifications and 2) I-64 and Grinstead Drive storage basin project update and request for public input. MSD staff will be available to discuss individual property issues.
