Parkland P.A.I.N.T. Announcement...
|
Center For Neighborhoods is excited to announce the artist for the next
P.A.I.N.T. project
(Producing Art In Neighborhoods Together)
in the Parkland neighborhood -
"Parkland Rising"
by artist, Ramona Lindsey.
"Parkland
Rising" focuses on developing an appreciation of Parkland's ability to
recreate itself from the ashes of poverty, crime, and hopelessness and
to once again claim its status as a prominent Louisville community. The
project honors the rich heritage of Parkland through the display of
historical photos. During the project, residents will be asked to think
about and discuss Parkland's future as they complete "We will rise again
as..." stickers that will be prominently displayed in the art work.
While creating this art work residents will explore the concepts of
renew, reuse, & recycle to create an environmentally responsible
sculpture of a Phoenix symbolizing the rising socioeconomic, political,
and family status of Parkland. In addition, Ms. Lindsey plans to
assemble a group of volunteer-based junior horticulturalists to
incorporate plants into the installation to represent the community's
growth and hope.
The
P.A.I.N.T. project, "Parkland Rising" forms collaboration between
artist and the residents of the Parkland neighborhood. Center For
Neighborhoods' ultimate goal is to create culturally relevant public
artwork that encourages meaningful dialogue and builds community, while
simultaneously supporting the vision of both neighborhoods and the
visual arts.
The
Parkland neighborhood is located in District 1 - Metro Councilwoman
Attica Scott. As requested by Councilwoman Scott, the "voices" of the
Parkland residents and their vision of the future of their neighborhood
are incorporated into the P.A.I.N.T. project.
P.A.I.N.T. is made possible through an Arts, Cultural, Attractions grant through the Metro External Agency Fund.

Housing Corporation began its Repair Affair Program in 1993. 2013 marks
our 20th Anniversary! Since then the program's mission
has been to mobilize community-wide resources and volunteers to support
the housing repair needs of elderly and disabled homeowners of low
income. Volunteer teams come from local corporations, service and social
organizations, congregations and individuals. Teams work to complete
home repairs including exterior painting, wheelchair ramps,
handrails/grab-bars, flooring, steps, locks, door/window repair, minor
mechanical repairs, yard-work, etc. There is no fee or
obligation for this service. Repair Affair is not re-decorating,
remodeling or total rehab. We stress safety, security, accessibility,
maintenance and weatherization. Funding for the program comes from
municipalities, corporations, foundations, congregations, and
individuals. Many teams sponsor their own materials. Repair Affair helps people that...
