Center For Neighborhoods is excited to announce the following neighborhood leaders have been awarded the distinction of one of Louisville's Next Top Neighbors (LNTN) for

Fall 2011:

Monica Orr - Metro Council District 8

Steven Bobbi - Metro Council District 9

Mary "Ruth" Gerlach - Metro Council District 10

Shirley Hill - Metro Council District 11

Ron and Barbara Mercer - Metro Council District 14

Barbara Devereaux - Metro Council District 15

Catherine Brown - Metro Council District 15

Trisha Finnegan - Belknap Neighborhood Association

David Vislisel - Clifton Heights Community Council

Lisa Santos - Irish Hill Neighborhood Association

Todd Rine - Phoenix Hill Neighborhood Association

George Hauck - Schnitzelburg Area Community Council

Louisville's Next Top Neighbor is an inspiring mural project promoting neighborhood leaders who exemplify the "21st Century Neighbor" throughout Jefferson County. The recipients awarded the title of Louisville's Next Top Neighbor" are asking "What's Next?" and improving the quality of life and the environment within their community by exemplifying the following criteria:

  1. A good steward of their neighborhood and the community who strives to protect and preserve the environment thereby improving the lives of others.
  2. A neighborhood leader who understands the important role of the local community in a global world.
  3. A neighborhood leader who demonstrates their passion for improving their neighborhood by addressing environmental concerns in order to improve the quality of life within their community.
  4. A neighborhood leader who empowers neighbors by being an inspiration for positive change and asks "What's Next Louisville?"
  5. A neighborhood leader who is engaged with the community to strengthen the neighborhood identity.
  6. A neighborhood leader who celebrates and embraces diversity of culture, thought, and ability by promoting understanding and cooperation Metro-wide.

Center For Neighborhoods will highlight Louisville's Next Top Neighbors and the projectat our exhibit booth during the Festival of Faiths, November 2nd - 7th, 2011. Additionally, we will feature the information on our web site and in our upcoming e-newsletter. The murals are scheduled to be painted during the Spring of 2012 at sites located within the Metro Council District or neighborhood of Louisville's Next Top Neighbors.

Louisville's Next Top Neighbor is being funded by a generous gift from Owsley and Christy Brown.

Center For Neighborhoods will partner with the Cherokee Triangle Association in an exhibit booth during the Festival of Faiths. Together, CTA and CFN will highlight the importance of tree canopies to our neighborhoods and community, including the impact that trees have on the quality of our air.

Exhibit features:
  • Cherokee Triangle Neighborhood Street Tree Analysis and Recommendations
  • Benefits of an Urban Canopy
  • "Tree of Commitment" - Sign up and assist your neighborhood or homeowner association in:
    • Planting a Tree
    • Starting a Community Garden
    • Conducting a Street Tree Analysis
    • Begin a Tree Canopy Committee
  • "Louisville's Next Top Neighbors"
  • Video, brochures and publications

Trees improve our AIR through:
