Don't Let the name fool you, there's nothing fancy about our gala...

The Grassroots Gala is the authentic celebration of all Louisville neighborhoods providing the opportunity to showcase their individual character and unique assets while celebrating our local partners.

Neighborhood Booths

Neighborhood, Homeowner and Condo and Suburban City booths will highlight neighborhoods in many different, creative ways. This is your opportunity to learn about many neighborhoods in our community, reconnect with old friends, meet new ones and expand your network.

Local Partner Booths

Partners to Center For Neighborhoods and neighborhoods will set up information booths to highlight their involvement in the community and neighborhoods while demonstrating the benefits of collaborations between neighborhoods and local nonprofits and businesses.

YOUR Community Awareness Booth

Stop by the Metro Council/CFN booth: connect with your Metro Council District representative and identify and/or register your neighborhood, homeowner or condo association or suburban city. Receive information on your Metro Council District. Show pride for your neighborhood by making an "I (insert your neighborhood name)" button to wear during the gala. Record a "Pop Your Hood" segment about your neighborhood for Crescent Hill Radio. Mark your neighborhood on the community map, plus more!


"Keep Louisville Weird" Raffle

Items from members of the Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) will be raffled off during the event with tickets available for purchase online prior to the event; $5.00 per chance. $25.00 tickets for special "packages" will be presold online prior to the event. All drawings will take place at the gala.

Meet and Greet Happy Hour -

Center For Neighborhoods Members ONLY!

Meet the authors of "Two Centuries of Black Louisville," Merv Aubespin, Kenneth Clay and J. Blain Hudson, as they briefly reflect on their writings followed by an autograph session in the lobby of the historic Henry Clay Building.

Neighborhood Street Feast

Enjoy a variety of tasty, local fares from Louisville's finest food truck vendors - All on one street! No matter what you're craving -they'll have it: Lil Cheezers, Got It On A Bun @ Booty's Diner, Holy Mole, San Diego Sandwich Works, Holy Smokes Pitmaster Q, Busta Grill and Louisville Dessert Truck.

Community Beer Garden

Relax with neighbors and friends in the garden or "take a stroll" through Louisville neighborhoods. Additional beverages will be offered. Must be 21 to consume alcoholic beverages.

"Down and Dirty" Kids' Area with Breaking New Grounds

Learn how kitchen scraps, old newspapers and junk mail can be turned into new soil by building a worm habitat to take home and discover the wonder of composting.

Volunteers have many time slots to choose from beginning at Noon through 11:30 pm. Most shifts are 2 hours, but please let us know what works for you!

POP Your Hood!!!

A GREAT NEIGHBORHOOD OPPORTUNITY

Center For Neighborhoods is partnering with Crescent Hill Radio to provide neighborhoods a great chance to communicate their pride across the airwaves!!!
"Pop Your Hood"
is a new radio segment that allows community members to chime in about the
good things within their neighborhoods.

Pop Your Hood
"Pop Your Hood" is now open for submissions to all neighborhood, homeowner and condo association and Suburban Cities!!! Submissions may either be an audio file or written scripts.

Your resulting segments will air starting in April

2012 on Crescent Hill Radio. Pop Your Hood will be included on the weekly community variety program Keep Hearing Voices, and also included in CHR's community announcement spots.

What is Crescent Hill Radio?

Crescent Hill Radio is a local nonprofit radio station that features only local and regional music,
programming, and community information.

It started out as a low power AM station on the dial (AM 1650), but is now widely accessed via
the internet, where it is available anywhere in the world by live stream, 24 hours a day.

The goal of Crescent Hill Radio is to provide local bands and musicians a place to air their music,
and provide a community radio station with participation from community organizations and

REGISTER YOUR BOOTH TODAY!!!

Neighborhood, Homeowner, Condo and Suburban City Booths

Your booth at the Grassroots Gala can highlight your neighborhood in any manner your members feel appropriate. Be creative! Each booth space consist of an eight foot table and two chairs.

  • Bring photos and highlight your neighborhood history
  • Raise money for your group:
    • Raffle of an item from a neighborhood artisan or store

    • Sell neighborhood merchandise or memberships

  • Partner with a neighborhood business giving away samples or baubles
  • Conduct a survey
  • Feature a neighborhood "jewel," attraction or park
  • Promote neighborhood events

It's your space and your event - make it special!


Next Steps Towards Participation

This information is being sent out well in advance of the Grassroots Gala in order to give neighborhood groups ample time to organize their booths.

  • Spring Yard Sale at Peterson-Dumesnil House, 301 S. Peterson Avenue, 8 am - 1 pm. "Rain or Shine". To participate send $20 (checks payable to the Peterson-Dumesnil House Foundation) no later than April 13th; include your name, address, e-mail and/or phone number.   • Deer Park Neighborhood Association 2011 Deer Park Appreciation Award Celebration to honor recipient, Stan Esterle, Deer Park Baptist Church, 1733 Bardstown Road, 5 pm. Bring your favorite dish and participate in the Highlands potluck along with a card of gratitude for Stan
  • Harrods Creek Earth Day Paddle with Kentucky Waterways Alliance, River City Canoe & Kayak and Mayor Greg Fischer. Paddle: Noon - 4 pm and Reception: 4 - 6 pm. $30 cost includes paddle with interpretive stops, reception at Captain's Quarters with appetizers and live music. Sunday, May 20th:

Buy Local 1st Fair sponsored by LIBA, The Water Tower, 3005 River Road, 2 - 6pm. A celebration of locally owned/operated boutiques/shops, galleries, restaurants, breweries and much more. There will be farmers market booths, local art, handmade treasures, a variety of delicious food, live music, "Top Chef" competition, a kids area, craft beer and raffle.

Saturday, June 9th:

Repair Affair, New Directions Housing Corporation. Repair Affair is a very special program with great impact: the generosity of donors equips passionate volunteers to get needed repairs done for low-income, elderly or disabled neighbors. Our program maximizes donor dollars, provides a skill-building and team-building volunteer experience, and, most importantly, keeps our more vulnerable neighbors in safe, secure, and decent housing.
