OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS
Center For Neighborhoods' is excited to announce a partnership
with
the Parkland Neighborhood Association (PNIA) and Councilwoman Attica
Scott in Metro Council District 1 for the next PAINT project.
PAINT - Producing Art In Neighborhoods Together -
is a new, neighborhood-based public art program in Louisville.
To participate in the PAINT Program, you must attend a mandatory workshop scheduled on:
Saturday, December 1st
Elm Baptist Church, 3114 Greenwood Road
10 AM - Noon
To
prepare artists for the conceptual development of their project
proposals, Center For Neighborhoods will host a facilitated conversation
with the residents and stakeholders of the Parkland neighborhood. Come
out to listen and learn about this community, make connections, and
capture essential information to inspire a winning project proposal. The
specific site location of the PAINT project will be announced at the
workshop.
After
the workshop, artists interested in participating will be asked to
submit a brief "letter of intent to submit a proposal" that outlines
their project concept in one page or less. Deadline to submit a letter
of intent is Sunday, December 30th, by midnight. Upon reviewing the
letters of intent, a panel will select up to 5 artists to submit
site-specific proposals. The 5 artists will receive a $100 stipend for
their proposal. The proposals will be due January 31. 2013. More details
and a RFP will be provided at the December 1st workshop.
In
February, a review panel will select a winning project proposal. The
winning project will be announced and must be completed/installed by
June 30, 2013. The total award (including artist's commission,
installation, equipment and/or supplies) is $7,000.
The
PAINT Program is a project of Center For Neighborhoods, a 501(c)3
non-profit organization that has been serving the neighborhoods of
Louisville for 40 years. Center For Neighborhoods' response to community
demand for public art and beautification is the creation of this new
public art program. PAINT will embrace a neighborhood-based, grassroots
approach to the creation of new site-specific public artwork.
PAINT projects will be:
- Focused on a Neighborhood - A district or locality, often with reference to its character or inhabitants, a political ward or precinct. The concept of a neighborhood includes geographic, social, cultural, civic, economic, and historical components.
- Participatory - Marked by, requiring, or involving participation, especially affording the opportunity for individual participation.
- Public - Open to the view of all; existing or conducted in public.
The PAINT program emphasizes:
* Production of high-quality and meaningful cultural assets for the neighborhood
* Community engagement
* Collaborative partnerships
* Strengthening neighborhood identity and sense of place by producing projects of relevance to unique locations
* Improvement of residents quality of life in Louisville Metro
